A peaceful and beautiful lake in Southern Estonia

Lake Nõuni is a beautiful and varied lake within the Otepää Nature Park. It covers approximately 82 hectares (0.82 km²), with a maximum depth of 14.7 metres and an average depth of around 6.1 metres. From one shore to the other the lake stretches roughly 1740 metres, and its shoreline runs for nearly 6.2 kilometres.

Lake Nõuni is surrounded by quiet nature and a forested landscape, which makes it a wonderful place to relax, swim and enjoy water sports. Thanks to its size, the lake is spacious yet still cosy and sheltered from the wind – an ideal spot for beginner surfers and for anyone looking for a calmer experience on the water.

Why is it worth a visit?

  • Natural beauty and calm – the lake and its surroundings offer beautiful scenery along the forest and water edge, perfect for a walk or a picnic.
  • Water activities – although the lake is not especially large, it is well suited to water sports such as canoeing, SUP, light boating and even beginner water sports (depending on the weather and water conditions).
  • Fishing – the lake offers good conditions for fishing and has been described as a “good fish lake”.

Swimming opportunities

Lake Nõuni is a popular spot among both locals and visitors who simply want to enjoy the water. The beach is freely accessible to everyone – come whenever you feel like swimming, sunbathing or just relaxing by the lake. There is a sandy swimming area by the shore, marked off with buoys, and changing cabins have been set up on the beach.

The peaceful setting and well-kept shoreline make Lake Nõuni a great place for swimming, sunbathing and enjoying nature – an ideal summer stop in Southern Estonia.

While the beach is tidy and pleasant for a summer day, please note that Nõuni beach is not an official public beach and there is no lifeguard on duty. For safety a lifebuoy is provided on the beach, but swimming is at your own risk. Diving and jumping into the water are strictly prohibited in order to prevent possible injuries.
